First Time Coming To Our Office?
Before your first appointment you will be emailed a link to a portal where you will find counseling intake paperwork.
First Appointment
You can expect that you feel heard, understood, and cared for. You and your counselor will review the intake paperwork, as well as discuss what you hope to accomplish, identify goals, and make a plan for counseling. The counselors at Johns Creek and Alpharetta Counseling are here to serve you, walk along side you, and help you meet YOUR goals, not tell you how to change.
Completing Office Forms:
We have an online portal to complete your documents electronically. If you are a new client and do not have a username and password yet, please call your counselor directly, only they can resend a portal link.
What To Expect: For Adults
During your first therapy session, you’ll meet with your counselor to start building a safe and trusting relationship. Together, you’ll discuss your history, explore the challenges you’re facing, and set meaningful goals to guide your counseling journey.
Finding the right fit is important — you should feel comfortable, supported, and able to be open with your counselor.
For couples counseling, the process begins with a joint session, followed by individual sessions with each partner, before continuing with sessions together.
If you have questions about starting counseling or scheduling your first appointment, we encourage you to give us a call.
WHAT TO EXPECT: FOR CHILDREN
We begin with a comprehensive intake play therapy assessment. This process helps us develop a clear diagnostic impression and provide personalized recommendations for your child’s future therapy.
The intake process includes:
1. Parent Intake (parent only) – An initial meeting to gather background information and discuss your child’s needs.
2. Child Intake: Internal Functioning – A one-on-one session with your child to understand their inner world and emotions.
3. Child Intake: External Functioning – A one-on-one session with your child focused on behavior, interactions, and coping skills.
4. Family Session – A family play therapy session, followed by a parental phone consultation to review treatment recommendations and planning.
During the treatment planning stage, we’ll determine the frequency of therapy sessions, clarify goals, and decide on the best balance of individual, family, and parental sessions for your child’s progress.
