She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has been in practice since 2009 offering Couples Counseling & Play Therapy for Children. She offers AAMFT approved supervision for associate level counselors. She graduated from Mercer School of Medicine with a Masters in Family Therapy in 2010.

Erica works with Couples by assisting them to be open, attuned, and responsive to each other allowing them to reestablish their emotional connection. She has worked with struggles ranging from communication breakdown, marital affairs, & previous traumas. She has specialized training and supervision in Emotionally Focused Couples Counseling and is working toward becoming a certified EFT therapist under Michael Burnett. She believes that a strong family is built upon a healthy and loving parental relationship.

Erica works with children who struggle with depression, anxiety, bullying, trauma, and difficult transitions (divorce, adoption, or a move). She utilizes experiential and attachment based play therapy to work with children. She is working toward earning her RPT (registered play therapist) certification. She has practiced within the school system and creates a holistic approach to treatment by collaboratively working with parents and teachers.

Furthermore, Erica has experience working with mental illness such as Depression, Anxiety, & Bipolar. She works with the client, their family, and the psychiatrist to create a holistic approach.

Crista Engelson

LMFT
Crista is a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist. She earned her Master’s degree from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Georgia and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Georgia. Crista worked in community mental health agencies primarily as an in-home therapist for children and their families before entering into private practice. She is trained in a number of therapeutic approaches including client-centered therapy, Play Therapy, Theraplay, Cognitive Behavioral, and Structural Family Therapy.

Crista utilizes Family Systems and holistic approach, and is a strong believer in helping parents become part of their child’s healing process through building the emotional connection that is vital in helping children feel secure and confident. Crista specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families who struggle with managing behavioral issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Crista provides clarity to parents learning to understand their child’s behavior, and how to manage their own stress in the face of difficult behaviors.

Crista provides a nurturing, genuine, and empathetic environment, always encouraging clients to express themselves comfortably and creatively without judgment.

Alex Kohl

MS, LAPC
Alex is a licensed associate professional counselor and is pursuing his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Over the past six years, Alex has provided individual and group therapy at the Shepherd Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Caminar Latino, and the Psychology Clinic at Georgia State University. In addition to his experience as a psychotherapist, Alex has received extensive training in Clinical Neuropsychology and has a Master’s degree in Behavioral and Neural Sciences. Understanding how the brain functions with regard to mental illness has helped to inform his therapy practice, primarily when working with clients presenting with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse issues. Alex also incorporates advanced biofeedback technology in his sessions to help his clients learn how to monitor and decrease stress by achieving a relaxed state of mind.

Alex strives to create a warm and welcoming environment so that his clients feel safe when discussing difficult issues. He is skilled in client-centered, systemic, and emotion-focused therapies and will often include other theoretical orientations to meet the specific needs of his clients. Alex specializes in the treatment of adolescents and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, LGBT issues, relationship/marital problems, trauma, grief, ADHD, and academic underachievement/learning disabilities. Alex’s primary area of expertise is in addiction and substance abuse. He works with both the client and the family to help understand the nature of the disease and how to take the necessary steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Alex has also received clinical training in working with patients suffering from traumatic brain injury and concussion.

Alissa Darnell

LPC
Alissa Darnell, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Cleveland State University and is completing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University. She has many years of experience in treating adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger, grief, personality issues, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and interpersonal conflict. Her counseling approach is foundationally Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, yet she utilizes other techniques as necessary to best meet her clients’ needs. Alissa also has experience in social and communication skills training, which is invaluable in helping individuals, couples, and families improve their relationships. In addition to counseling, she has facilitated continuing education seminars for mental health professionals in the community.

Alissa has a passion for helping people learn and grow. She strives to ensure that you have a clear understanding of your current mental status, as this knowledge is fundamental in helping you learn to manage your symptoms and stressors. With empathy and compassion, she provides a warm, non-judgmental environment, which allows you to feel comfortable and supported. You can expect to learn how your patterns of thought and behavior are contributing to life challenges. She has a holistic approach to counseling, allowing all aspects of wellness to be addressed. Additionally, she has professional training and personal experience with cultural diversity, allowing perspective in understanding treatment needs for individuals with various backgrounds. Laurie Swope

LAPC
Laurie Swope, M.S., NCC is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor currently working on her certification as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Registered Play Therapist. Her interests include working with children and families, as well as parenting education. Her areas of concentration include ADHD, attachment, foster and adoptive families, anxiety, trauma and Filial Therapy. As a child and family therapist, Laurie makes use of both directive and non-directive approaches with her child clients. She believes in treating the whole individual to address the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs. Her passion has always been to facilitate the healing of an individual’s past traumas and emotional wounds, as well as to enhance their resilience and growth towards overall well-being.

Laurie has a Master’s degree from Georgia State University in Professional Counseling, and a Bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. She has obtained professional experience in the field, over the last 15 years, working with children, adolescents and adults at schools, adoption agencies, medical missions, women’ s ministries, faith-based organizations, Emory University and The Emory Clinic. Her recent training had been focused on brain-based therapies, and how utilizing specific play therapy techniques can assist in this neural-physiological healing process.

Laurie has been married for more than 15 years and has three children of her own. She is a member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of GA, and the Association for Play Therapy.
